Winner of the Mayor’s Civic Award for Services to the Community 2016

Joyce Chesney, Audio Reader | Focus on Vision CIC

Joyce Chesney started her working life in Stockton Library where she established the Reference Library as Reference Librarian. Pre-Internet days, Joyce helped to provide essential information thanks largely to her immense knowledge in many subjects. Joyce also belongs to the Stockton group of Soroptimist International Great Britain and Ireland, who tirelessly fundraise in Stockton. Soroptimist International is a national movement of women, or sisters, as they are called.

When Joyce retired she started working as a volunteer at the Butterwick Hospice. Joyce says little about what happens there just that she is immensely proud of the work of the Butterwick, at the very ebb of a person’s life.

She also somehow finds time to support blind and partially sighted people not only in Stockton but across the UK, in her role as a volunteer for Focus On Vision C.I.C.

Taken from Mayor’s Annual Report 2015-2016.

We are very proud of the work Joyce does for us and feel this award is very well deserved as she gives up so much of her time for so many good causes.
